Claridge and Hall worked with archaeologists to ensure preservation of important artifacts and the remaining Roman Basilica structure.
The new construction included cantilevered foundations, designed so that concrete piles could be positioned to avoid the surviving archaeology.
The existing 40 tonne concrete roof was supported on props and the entire supporting structure removed and replaced. This approach allowed the new steel structure and exterior opening etc. to be repositioned as required.
An illuminated glass viewing panel was installed to protect the Roman Basilica and allow the original flint architecture to be seen below the building.
